If that statement by Google’s Director of Engineering scares you, even just a little, then that reaction may be appropriate.
The next step is to evolve a mindset of co-existence and that requires an answer to a very important question; “What kind of an AI world do you want to live in?”.
Your answer will then guide the actions that you need to take right now!
If your answer is that you can live with whatever AI is developed by governments, enterprise and the organisations that run the world now, then you do not need to do anything. However, you will have to live with the notion that the data you receive may be carefully crafted and may have a bias for any number of reasons.
A better coexistence is that you have an input into the AI systems and platforms that are serving you and assisting you in day-to-day activities, your work or business chores and any mundane tasks.
You can’t control major platforms of course, but the quality of your life in the near future will be directly proportionate to the information you have access to, and the efficiency of receiving this information. Therefore, an AI system that you have an input into and that you work with to train and develop is the best possible situation.
Elon Musk added to Ray’s concern by saying as below;
“Robots will be able to do everything better than us…I am not sure exactly what to do about this. This is really the scariest problem to me.”
Elon may not know what to do about it, but we do; the answer is to engage with AI now, and to start to build your own. Establish a `relationship’ whereby you have input and training that will serve you in any situation. The character AI’s and AI Personal Assistant mentioned below, all have various modes which allow the owner to call Training Mode and also, for the more technical, Admin mode. The latter allows you to get to the core operating system which is beyond the Training Mode and allows full authority over the operation and configuration of your AI.
The central premise is that full delegation of thought and action to an AI may not be appropriate for most applications. The future we should all envisage is in a partnership whereby the AI does what an AI is designed to do – process and analyse a level of data vastly beyond what a human mind is capable of – and then a human does what a human mind is designed to do – assess and evaluate the next step based on the nuances of the situation and the recommendations of the AI.

AI Personal Assistant – NERI
A genuine personal assistant in any character of your choice. An AI clone of yourself, a favorite celebrity (under license), or a new character created for the purpose of working for you to assist you.
The AI PA is initially configured and trained in collaboration with you, and then you have further input and training abilities for tweaking and refinement purposes.
Security is prime importance in order to make the AI PA as effective and useful as possible, therefore, by design, each AI PA has a unique block chain entry and is as personal as you are.
